SYNOPSIS

Because of a "mechanical" failure, Uncle Martin's raised antennas
stick... and remain raised. Horace, a small boy, sees Martin with his
antennas raised and concludes this is a new game called "playing
Martian." He and all the other little boys in the neighborhood decide
they want to play, too. They plague Mr. Barnaby, owner of the local
toyshop, for toy antennas. Mr. Barnaby, of course, has none, but
decides to manufacture them. Soon every boy in town is sporting
antennas. Mr. Barnaby decides to patent the device in order to protect
his investment. This creates a real danger for Martin. If the antennae
are patented in Washington, Martin, as the inventor, will be named and
the authorities will discover he has no birth certificate, no social
security number... and no fingerprints. In addition, a leading
magazine wants to do a piece on the fad that's sweeping the country.
If Martin refuses to submit to an interview they will be suspicious,
for what inventor doesn't want publicity? Martin gets the hiccups and
his antennas go down but the problem still exists... that of the
patent and the interview.

Here Martin utilizes his knowledge of "human nature." The
only way to end one fad is to replace it with another... and this he
does. He devises a toy which the children can make themselves and
which is unpatentable. It is a windmill that is worn on the nose and
can be put together from paper, a clothespin and a rubber band. The
children are delighted, discard their antennas, forget all about
playing Martian... and in place of the antennas they a11 now sport
"nose-mobiles."

The "Martian" fad is ended, the "nose-mobile" fad is blooming.. and
Martin is safe.
