SYNOPSIS 

When Uncle Martin invents a duplicating machine that reproduces objects as 
solid and real in every respect as the originals, Tim is fascinated. 
Too much so. Experimenting with the device on his own, he accidentally 
duplicates Mrs. Brown. Troubles mount when Detective Brennan 
unwittingly takes the duplicate Mrs. Brown out to dinner. Knowing that 
the life-expectancy of the duplicate is less than an hour Uncle Martin 
and Tim get the real Mrs. Brown to the restaurant with the intention 
of substituting her for the substitute. When the strategy goes awry, 
they make a desperate attempt to "erase" the surplus Mrs. B. by 
throwing the machine in reverse. But this fails, and they wind up with 
twin Detective Brennans as well as a pair of Mrs. Browns. Fighting 
against the clock to prevent two apparently real people from 
disappearing in full view of their original counterparts is an 
assignment that taxes even Uncle Martin's ingenuity. When he finally 
manages to bring it off, Tim solemnly vows to keep away from any 
machine more complicated than a can opener and to leave three-
dimensional duplicating devices to someone with a mind like that of 
his favorite Martian.
