SYNOPSIS
To earn some money and help with expenses, Martin undertakes the
tutoring of a neighbor boy, Eddie Prescott, the son of an Air Force
Captain in the missile command. The boy has a bad reputation and
refuses to learn. Martin discovers that the boy is afraid because his
father expects so much of him and soon has him learning rapidly.
In the process, because Martians are sensitive to silver, Martin
loses a good portion of his brains when Eddie smiles, revealing a
mouthful of solid silver braces. These induce a powerful electrical
discharge during which Martin's brains pass to the boy's head.
The Captain becomes suspicious of Eddie's space knowledge
and Martin discovers what has happened and how.
Before Martin can devise a means of getting his brains back
from Eddie, the Captain is transferred overnight to Washington, D.C.
Martin tries to effect a brain transfer with his own electrical powers
but ends up the loser again. Finally he goes up to his space ship,
connects himself to the ship's electrical system, hovers in a negative
cloud, and when the jet carrying Eddie passes through a positive
cloud, he gets his brains back with an enormous electrical discharge
and sonic boom. Eddie, with a vacuum in his head and with nature
abhoring a vacuum, develops a great thirst for knowledge and becomes a
normal boy.
